President Donald Trump terminated the six-member board that governs the Presidio Trust, the federal agency managing San Francisco’s historic Presidio. All appointees—Mark W. Buell, Charles M. Collins, Lenore Eccles, Patsy Ishiyama, Bonnie LePard and Nicola Miner—were dismissed Wednesday, leaving the board vacant. The dismissal eliminates the only federally appointed oversight body for the park's $300 million budget and new members have yet to be named.

The move stems from a February 2025 order that labeled the Presidio Trust an “unnecessary governmental entity” and called for its dramatic reduction. Trump’s broader bureaucracy overhaul has already seen courts block takeovers of the Inter‑American Foundation and the African Development Foundation. The Presidio spans 1,500 acres and now draws 9.5 million visitors annually, making the disruption economically sensitive.

Because the trust has not received a congressional appropriation since 2013, it relies on rents from on‑site businesses and residents. Board removal unsettles tenants, ecologists and the National Park Service, which co‑manage the site. State Senator Scott Wiener condemned the action, calling Trump “the Destroyer President.” Until replacements are appointed, the Presidio still operates without its governing board.
