Hadi Matar, the man who stabbed author Salman Rushdie multiple times at a literary event in 2022, has been found guilty of aiding a foreign terrorist group. The verdict comes after a trial that captivated international attention. Matar faces a potential life sentence for his actions.

The attack occurred in August 2022 as Mr. Rushdie was about to give a lecture at the Chautauqua Institution in western New York. Witnesses described Matar rushing the stage and repeatedly stabbing the author before being subdued by bystanders and security. Mr. Rushdie sustained severe injuries, including to his neck and abdomen, and required extensive medical treatment.

Prosecutors argued that Matar was inspired by extremist ideologies and sought to harm Mr. Rushdie, whose novel "The Satanic Verses" had drawn condemnation from some religious groups.
