New York's First 60-Degree Day Sparks Spring Fever

New Yorkers flooded parks and outdoor spaces Sunday as temperatures climbed into the 60s for the first time in months, melting away the last traces of winter. The city's first warm day drew crowds to Central Park, Washington Square Park, and Brooklyn's Domino Park, with people shedding heavy coats for light jackets.

Meteorologists from the National Weather Service forecast mid-60s temperatures through Tuesday, with clear skies expected Monday and Tuesday. The seasonal shift came as a relief after a winter that brought 43.4 inches of snow and temperatures averaging 4 to 4.5 degrees below normal. Despite the cold snap, this winter ranks only as New York's 44th coolest on record.

The warm weather provided an economic boost to businesses dependent on foot traffic. Bars and restaurants in Williamsburg and other neighborhoods reported increased activity, with some owners planning to hire additional staff to handle the seasonal surge. The timing coincided with daylight saving time, giving residents an extra hour of evening light to enjoy the outdoors.
