Minecraft's Uncensored Library is expanding with a United States wing dedicated to documenting press freedom challenges in America. The digital project, which already houses censored works from Russia, Saudi Arabia, and other nations, will feature American content including Stephen Colbert's banned Senate candidate interview and government reports on sea-level rise that were removed during President Trump's second term.

Since its 2020 launch, the Uncensored Library has cleverly used Minecraft's platform to bypass government censorship. Because the library exists within the game, authorities cannot block access without banning Minecraft itself. The library has attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors and survived numerous hacking attempts, demonstrating the power of decentralized information sharing.

The new US wing opening Wednesday places America alongside Belarus, Brazil, Egypt, and other nations facing press freedom issues. Reporters Without Borders executive director Clayton Weimers explained that while the US lacks institutionalized state censorship, it employs covert tactics like restricting reporter access and normalizing hostility toward journalists. The US has fallen to 57th in the Press Freedom Index, down from 45th when the library launched.
