The Log Cabin Republicans, a prominent conservative gay rights organization, has officially ended its support for transgender causes. President Ross Hemminger announced the shift in an online essay, arguing that the transgender rights movement has become overly focused on minors and has alienated the broader public. He cited concerns over trans participation in women’s sports and gender-affirming care for youth as key reasons for the change.

The move aligns the group more closely with President Trump and the MAGA movement, which has rolled back federal policies supporting transgender Americans. The White House has banned Medicaid funds for gender-transition procedures for adolescents, declared only two sexes exist, and barred transgender individuals from military service. Critics, including Delphine Luneau of the Human Rights Campaign, called the claims “malicious propaganda,” stating they do not reflect reality.

Polling by Gallup shows Republican support for same-sex marriage dropped from 55% in 2021–2022 to 37% this year. In Texas, the 2026 Republican platform still labels homosexuality as an “abnormal lifestyle choice.” Danny Stevens, former Houston chapter president, praised the decision, saying the group should have cut ties with trans advocacy sooner to maintain credibility among conservatives.
