Federal Probe Hits NYC Schools Over Pro-Palestinian Educator Group

The Trump administration initiated a civil rights investigation into the New York City Education Department concerning the activities of N.Y.C. Educators for Palestine. Federal education officials will examine seminars offered by the group covering “Palestine, Zionism and Resistance,” amid allegations of fostering anti-Jewish sentiment among students.

This action marks the latest friction between the federal government and the nation’s largest school system. The department asserted that teachers encouraged support for Hamas and labeled Zionists as “genocidal white supremacists,” claims the city’s schools spokeswoman stated they are reviewing, confirming the group is not affiliated with the district.

New York City has previously resisted federal mandates, including refusing to eliminate DEI policies and challenging the withholding of over $35 million in magnet school grants over gender identity guidelines. The probe signals continued federal pressure on local educational governance regarding politically charged curriculum and activism.

Educators for Palestine, formed in 2019, advocates for Palestinian liberation and has promoted materials encouraging families to teach Palestinian history. The conflict centers on federal oversight versus local control in defining acceptable classroom discourse concerning international conflicts.
