Video footage released by the Dolphin Research Center shows a mother dolphin carrying her dead calf for days. This behavior, often referred to as "grieving" or "mourning," is not uncommon among dolphins but is rarely captured on film. The conservancy group posted the video to highlight the complex emotional lives of marine mammals.

Dr. Maria Santos, a marine biologist not involved with the footage, stated that while the term "mourning" is anthropomorphic, the behavior clearly indicates a strong bond and distress. She noted that such instances can last for several days, with the mother often nudging the calf or holding it at the surface.

The footage was recorded off the coast of Florida. Researchers hope that by sharing such observations, public awareness and conservation efforts for these intelligent creatures can be furthered. The dolphin was observed carrying the calf for approximately three days before eventually letting go.
