The Justice Department is using the never-before-activated Alien Terrorist Removal Court to deport Nazira Haji Zada, the mother of a convicted ISIS supporter. Her son, Abdullah Haji Zada, was sentenced to 15 years for attempting to provide material support to ISIS, and her son-in-law, Tawhedi, pleaded guilty to similar charges.

ICE officials argue that traditional immigration courts are insufficient for Zada's deportation, citing her family's alleged involvement with ISIS. Zada, who is legally in the U.S. on a green card and has no criminal history, reportedly relies on her son for translation due to illiteracy and lack of English proficiency.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche approved the unprecedented action, stating the court was created to remove "alien terrorists." The government alleges Zada aided in a plot to attack American voters. Much of the evidence against her remains classified, with a court filing noting her son acted as her translator. Chief Judge Joan Ericksen found probable cause for her removal, setting an initial hearing for Thursday.
