Democrats Attack Trump on Energy Costs Amid Iran War

Senate Democrats are intensifying attacks on President Trump over energy affordability as the conflict with Iran enters its third week. A new report from top Democrats accuses the administration of waging a "war on energy affordability" by canceling hundreds of clean energy projects even before the strikes on Iran sent energy costs higher.

Since Trump took office, 354 clean energy projects have been delayed, blocked, or forced to lay off workers due to grant cancellations and other administration policies, according to Senate Democrats. The report blames Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" for eliminating federal subsidies for wind, solar, and battery storage, making clean energy projects more expensive.

The timing is politically strategic. With oil prices surging and gas averaging $3.79 per gallon, Democrats see an opening to connect high energy costs to Trump's policies. "Rather than embrace the most affordable and quickest-to-build power sources, clean energy, Trump has waged an ideological war that will leave families poor and sicker," said Senator Chuck Schumer.
