Jared Kushner Seeks $5B Mideast Envoy Fund Raising Sparks Conflict Concerns

Jared Kushner, President Trump's son-in-law and Middle East envoy, is actively soliciting $5 billion or more from foreign governments for his private equity firm, Affinity Partners. According to the New York Times, Kushner has engaged potential investors recently, including Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), which already invested $2 billion in Affinity during the first Trump administration. PIF, led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, holds a first-right-of-refusal on future Affinity fundraises.

Other Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds, like those from the UAE and Qatar, are also expected to be approached. This effort, expected to continue for much of the year, highlights the blurring lines between public service and private profit during the Trump administration's second term.
