AI Antitrust Tool Launched by Ex-Justice Enforcers

Jonathan Kanter and Doha Mekki, former leaders of the Justice Department’s antitrust division, have launched Flux Cap, an AI tool designed for litigators. The start‑up aims to speed up claim evaluation, evidence discovery and argument outlining—tasks that normally demand large teams of junior lawyers.

Kanter says the technology will let elite lawyers ‘litigate at scale.’ The legal‑tech funding surge has fueled rivals such as Harvey, which raised $775 million, and Legora, which recently bought Wexler. AI giants Google, Anthropic and OpenAI also offer lawyer‑focused tools.

Flux Cap’s team includes at least four ex‑antitrust officials and engineers led by Marshall Seid, a former Palantir tech lead. Early clients include boutique Kressin Powers, which values the founders’ domain expertise. The firm has raised $6.4 million in seed capital from Y Combinator, Bloomberg Beta, Burford Capital, Coalition Capital, Deep Work Capital and Omidyar Network.

Kanter and Mekki predict a shift toward boutique firms and away from billable hours as AI reduces reliance on junior talent. ‘We’re betting Flux will enable a better kind of legal practice,’ Mekki said, noting the tool’s focus on deep legal tech.
