Diezani Alison-Madueke, former Opec president and Nigeria's petroleum minister, appeared at her London corruption trial claiming documents proving legitimate expenses had disappeared after being seized in Nigeria. The 65-year-old faces charges of accepting bribes and conspiracy to commit bribery between 2011 and 2015.

Alison-Madueke testified that receipts, invoices and diaries crucial to her defense vanished following a search of her Abuja home by Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crime Commission. She said she had made copies specifically to defend herself against political persecution, stating she would be made "the scapegoat of my administration."

Prosecutors allege the former minister accepted luxury gifts including chauffeur-driven cars, private jet flights, Harrods shopping services, and London properties, including a £100,000 cash bribe. Alison-Madueke firmly rejected these claims, saying she "had no idea" about the alleged cash transaction and only used chartered jets rarely.
