Ro Khanna, the top Democrat on the House China committee, sent a letter to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick accusing the Trump administration of undermining Biden‑era incentives that were meant to bring Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron chip factories to the U.S. He warned that the interference could be driving the recent surge in consumer‑electronics prices.

Khanna also asked whether U.S. firms may buy memory chips from the blacklisted Chinese maker CXMT, noting that Apple has lobbied for clearance after raising MacBook and iPad prices by about 20 % due to AI‑fuelled demand. He cautioned that reliance on PRC supply chains would threaten national security.

The Pentagon has placed CXMT on a military‑ties blacklist, and Republican chair John Moolenaar echoed concerns. Meanwhile, Samsung and SK Hynix unveiled a $600bn expansion plan in South Korea, while Micron boosted its U.S. investment to $250 bn. All three received grants from the $49 bn Chips and Science Act, which Trump criticized and Lutnick is now reviewing. The Commerce Department declined to comment.
