Sony is bracing for a £2bn class-action lawsuit alleging UK PlayStation users were overcharged for digital games. The case, led by consumer advocate Alex Neill, accuses the company of maintaining a closed ecosystem that forces users into excessive fees via its PlayStation Store.

With over 12.2mn users potentially affected, the tribunal will examine whether Sony’s 30% commission on digital sales constitutes unfair pricing and stifles competition. The trial, set for March 10, could set a precedent for digital storefronts in the UK.
