The NHS and local authorities have paid around £2bn to companies part‑owned by G Square Capital over the past three years, a period when Samantha Jones, now permanent secretary at the Department of Health and Social Care, or her husband Joe Harrison held financial interests in the private‑equity firm.

G Square holds stakes in Keys Group, the UK’s second‑largest children’s home provider, and other private healthcare businesses. Jones was an operating partner at G Square until April 2025; Harrison became a paid senior adviser four months later and remains in that role. Campaigner David Rowland called the flow of taxpayer money “staggering and completely hidden”.

Contract values for Keys Group rose from £186mn to £234mn annually, while Chec and Pharmacy2U also saw increases. The DHSC said Jones resigned all private posts before taking office, and MKUH stated Harrison’s advisory work involves no commercial decisions. Prime Minister Andy Burnham pledged to curb “profiteering” in care.
