London Stock Exchange to Launch 24‑Hour Trading in 2027

The London Stock Exchange announced plans to launch a night‑time trading venue in the first half of 2027, operating from 5 pm to 7:50 am with a 30‑minute pause. The new exchange will run separately from the main market and initially offer exchange‑traded products such as funds tracking UK or US indexes.

The move responds to competition from 24‑hour crypto platforms like Coinbase and Kraken, which have attracted younger retail investors. Julia Hoggett, chief executive of the LSE, said global retail demand—especially from Asian traders—drives the need for round‑the‑clock access, and that institutional interest is also growing.

U.S. peers such as Nasdaq, the New York Stock Exchange, and Cboe Global Markets are pursuing similar extended‑hours projects. Retail broker e Toro reported huge demand for 24/5‑to‑24/7 market access, while industry groups caution that sustainability remains uncertain.

The LSE aims to eventually list more than 2,600 exchange‑traded products on the night venue and will incorporate agentic AI trading tools. The main market will keep its 8 am‑4:30 pm schedule.
