### Jane Street Tops Asia Block Trading After Segantii Collapse

Jane Street Capital has become a leading player in Asia's multibillion-dollar block trading industry, filling the void left by the closure of Simon Sadler's Segantii. The New York-based firm is now a "top three" choice for investment bank desks seeking buyers of large share parcels in Asian companies.

Block trading allows participants to acquire shares at significant discounts to market prices, while sellers avoid the price impact of open-market sales. Total block sales in Asia topped **$48bn** in 2024 and 2025, with India leading, followed by Hong Kong and Japan.

Jane Street's rise follows Segantii's 2024 closure after Sadler was charged with insider trading by Hong Kong regulators. His trial over trading Esprit stock began in May. Previously "active but not top tier," Jane Street now boasts enhanced risk-hedging capabilities and longer holding periods, leveraging its massive balance sheet. The firm recently committed to Hong Kong as its Asian headquarters, leasing six floors for about **$4mn** monthly. In July, it posted its first monthly loss in a decade after an AI-related stock sell-off.
