Gatwick airport suffered disruption to its water supply on Friday because of a burst main in a nearby field, the second time supply has been hit this summer. Water supply in both of the airport's terminals was affected, with some toilets in the North Terminal closed and restaurants no longer serving food and drink. The South Terminal was largely unaffected.

Flights operated as normal. SES Water confirmed the burst main was located in a field in Horley and deployed a team to repair it. By 4:40pm, water supplies were restored to Gatwick and surrounding areas, though the company noted water wasn't yet flowing throughout all buildings.

This marks the second water disruption this summer, following a July outage caused by a power failure at a local treatment works. Ofwat previously judged SES Water was "lagging behind" in performance, particularly in water supply interruptions. The airport, owned by Vinci SA and BlackRock's GIP, apologised for passenger inconvenience.
