The Financial Times is expanding its podcast portfolio with a new show that uses historical finance to decode modern markets. The Story of Money, launching 22 April, will be hosted by FT columnist Gillian Tett and FT Alphaville editor Robin Wigglesworth. The weekly podcast explores how past financial experiments — from 19th-century American frontier banking to ancient Mesopotamian debt forgiveness — illuminate today's market cycles and emerging trends.

The series draws on the FT's 138-year reporting history, combining analysis and storytelling with contributions from journalists across its global newsroom. Episodes will release weekly on Wednesdays, free on YouTube, Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

The launch strengthens the FT's growing audio business, which already includes titles like FT News Briefing, Unhedged, The Economics Show and Tech Tonic.
