ENRC Sues SFO for $168M Over Botched Investigation

Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation (ENRC) is seeking over $168 million in compensation from the UK Serious Fraud Office (SFO) and its former legal team, alleging reckless conduct during a decade-long criminal probe. The Kazakh miner claims the SFO’s 2013 investigation caused reputational harm, inflated legal costs, and restricted access to capital. Legal representative Nathan Pillow KC stated the case hinges on ‘bad-faith misconduct’ by the SFO and Dechert, a law firm previously found liable in earlier trials.

The SFO’s probe, which closed in 2023, targeted ENRC’s 2011-2013 voluntary disclosures to authorities, a process later deemed unauthorized by a UK judge.
