Eli Lilly Pushes UK for Higher Drug Prices, Threatens Investment Pause

Eli Lilly insists Britain must raise NHS drug prices and abolish a £1.8bn rebate scheme to resume UK investment, per Financial Times reports. The pharmaceutical giant’s president, Patrik Jonsson, confirmed talks with UK ministers, calling discussions “optimistic” but demanding concrete timelines. The company seeks to link payments for obesity drugs like Mounjaro to patient outcomes, such as reduced workplace absenteeism, arguing this could offset costs.

Current NHS cost-effectiveness thresholds—set to jump from £20,000-£30,000 to £25,000-£35,000—remain below pre-2000s levels when adjusted for inflation, Jonsson noted.
