Diehl Defence eyes co‑production of Ukraine’s Flamingo cruise missile in Germany. Chief executive Helmut Rauch said talks with Fire Point will begin in weeks. Co‑manufacturing would give Europe a 3,000‑km reach, double the Tomahawk, and signal a shift toward Ukrainian tech. This move could also streamline supply chains and reduce delivery times for frontline units across all European forces.

Berlin seeks alternatives to US Tomahawk after Trump cancelled the 2024 deployment. German defence minister Boris Pistorius praised Ukrainian advances and urged joint ventures. If realised, the partnership could boost Diehl’s portfolio and provide NATO allies with a long‑range strike option amid Moscow’s missile buildup. This collaboration would also strengthen Germany’s strategic autonomy and support allied procurement decisions for modern defence.

Fire Point currently ships about 200 Flamingos per month but needs orders and funding. Diehl’s advanced seeker and design expertise could unlock higher production rates. The deal would also position Diehl as a key player in Europe’s emerging missile market, potentially reshaping defence procurement across the bloc. This could attract additional investment and accelerate technology transfer across European defence companies.
