Megan Archer-Fox has gained a significant social media following by openly discussing her £40,000 credit card debt as part of the Financial Times' Financial Literacy and Inclusion Campaign. The 34-year-old, known as "That Girl In Debt" on TikTok and Instagram, shared her story during an FT webinar, revealing how she and her partner accumulated substantial debt through lifestyle spending in their twenties.

The couple used 0% interest credit cards for dining out and holidays, transferring balances between cards as introductory periods ended. After having children, credit cards became necessary for everyday expenses like groceries and nappies. Archer-Fox discovered they had spent £2,700 in fees and interest on just one card, prompting the creation of a budget to pay approximately £600 monthly toward their six credit cards and overdrafts.

Despite not seeking formal debt advice from organizations like StepChange, Archer-Fox found that breaking the silence around financial struggles resonated with many followers. "Being honest about my debts is helping others — and it's helped me," she said. Her experience demonstrates how transparency about personal finance can combat the shame surrounding debt while offering practical insights for others facing similar challenges.
