Citadel Securities, founded by billionaire Ken Griffin, is opening an office in Amsterdam, reinforcing its role as a European hub for options trading. The move follows a 2017 Dublin launch and a 2021 Paris office, positioning the firm alongside Jane Street, Optiver and IMC in the Dutch capital.

Dave Silber, head of institutional equity derivatives, said Amsterdam’s reputation for equity derivatives and its talent pool make it a natural place for growth. The new office will house five staff, including trading, technology and quantitative research teams, to support the firm’s expanding equity options business.

The firm has about 300 people in London and posted record trading revenue of $4.3bn in the first quarter of 2026, with a net income of $1.9bn. Options trading has surged as retail investors chase high‑leverage bets on stock movements.

Digitalisation has enabled firms like Citadel to process orders worth hundreds of billions daily, and recent volatility from the AI boom and geopolitical tensions has further boosted demand for derivatives liquidity.
