BP Keeps Amanda Blanc on Chair Search Amid Investor Pushback

BP has retained Dame Amanda Blanc to head its second chair search, defying calls from shareholders and City figures for a new face. The decision follows the abrupt ouster of Albert Manifold after eight months.

Blanc, chief executive of Aviva, previously led the search that placed Manifold in July. Investors argue her role as senior independent director weakens her credibility after the “bullying” allegations that prompted Manifold’s exit.

Board chairman Ian Tyler said the search will be “rigorous” and reflect the collective view. He added that Blanc’s leadership is essential to finding a candidate who can steer BP through recent management turbulence.

The move highlights BP’s struggle to regain investor confidence after a series of high‑profile missteps. Stakeholders now watch closely to see if a new chair can restore stability.
