Hedge fund billionaire Chris Rokos is moving his residency from the UK to Greece, becoming the latest high-profile financier to leave amid fears over tax rises under the Labour government. Rokos, who paid himself £477mn last year as his $22bn macro hedge fund soared, is one of the UK's biggest individual taxpayers. Greece offers an annual flat tax of €100,000 for wealthy foreign investors, allowing them to keep foreign earnings outside its tax net for up to 15 years, provided they invest at least €500,000 in the country.

Rokos Capital Management (RCM), one of the world's largest macro hedge funds, employs more than 370 people across London, New York, Abu Dhabi and Singapore. Rokos founded the firm in 2015 after leaving Brevan Howard Asset Management, which he co-founded with Alan Howard in 2002 following his time at Credit Suisse.

Rokos is also a leading philanthropist, having endowed the Rokos scholarship at Eton College, pledged £190mn to Cambridge University, and spent £175mn transforming Tottenham House in Wiltshire. Other notable departures from the UK include Lakshmi Mittal, Nassef Sawiris, and Richard Gnodde, driven by the abolition of the non-dom regime and anticipated tax increases.
