US equity indexes climbed as oil prices slid and officials signaled optimism about a summit between US President Donald Trump and China’s Xi Jinping this week. The S&P 500 Index opened 0.6% higher Monday. Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. and Paramount Skydance Corp. contributed to the benchmark’s advance as shares in both companies gained on settlement talks Bloomberg Terminal with California officials over their deal. The tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 Index climbed 1.2%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.2%.

Russia is set to extend a ban on most diesel exports beyond the end of September as Ukraine continues to attack its refineries, according to people familiar with the matter. There’s an understanding that the ban will be extended, the people said, asking not to be identified discussing private deliberations. Prolonging the curbs by another month or even more is under consideration, one of the people said.
