Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins announced that the US will permit Mexican cattle shipments into two additional ports over the next two months. This strategic move aims to bolster domestic beef supplies following recent disruptions in trade flows.

The decision follows the resumption of trade at a port in Douglas, Arizona, on Monday. This crossing had been largely halted for the past year to prevent the spread of the deadly New World screwworm parasite. The reopening marks a significant step toward normalizing agricultural trade along the border.

Rollins outlined a phased expansion during a press conference. A second port in New Mexico is scheduled to reopen in 30 days. Subsequently, a third port within the same state will follow suit another 30 days later. These coordinated openings are designed to gradually increase capacity while maintaining biosecurity standards.
