Shell Plc plans to invest 3.5 billion reais ($666 million) in Raízen SA, the Brazilian ethanol producer it jointly owns with Cosan SA, according to Shell Brazil CEO André Araújo. The investment signals Shell's continued commitment to its Brazilian operations and the renewable energy sector.

Raízen, formed in 2011 as a joint venture between Shell and Cosan, is one of Brazil's largest ethanol producers and sugar manufacturers. The company operates 26 sugar mills and has significant distribution capabilities across Brazil's fuel market. Shell's investment comes as global energy companies increasingly focus on renewable alternatives and sustainable fuels.

The funding injection will likely support Raízen's expansion plans and modernization efforts in Brazil's competitive ethanol market. With Brazil being the world's second-largest ethanol producer, this investment positions Shell to capitalize on growing demand for sustainable biofuels while strengthening its foothold in South America's largest economy.
