Samsung US ADR Push Could Boost Valuation

A major fund manager is pressuring Samsung Electronics to list its shares as American Depositary Receipts in the US, arguing the move would significantly increase the company's market valuation. The investor, which has made Samsung its largest position, believes a US listing would attract more institutional buyers and improve liquidity for the South Korean tech giant's shares.

The push for US ADRs comes as Samsung faces pressure from shareholders to enhance shareholder returns and improve its market multiple. Currently trading primarily on Korean exchanges, Samsung shares are largely inaccessible to many US institutional investors who prefer ADRs for easier trading and settlement. The fund manager's proposal suggests a US listing could help narrow the valuation gap between Samsung and US peers like Apple and Nvidia.

While Samsung has not commented on the proposal, the request highlights growing investor frustration with the company's trading discount relative to global competitors. A US ADR listing would require Samsung to meet additional regulatory requirements but could potentially open access to a broader investor base and higher valuation multiples typically commanded by US-listed tech companies.
