PBOC Adds Most Liquidity in Five Months to Aid Growth

China's central bank made its biggest addition of liquidity to the economy in five months via its medium-term lending facility to support growth ahead of its late July Politburo meeting and to accommodate government bond issuance.

The People's Bank of China (PBOC) injected funds through the MLF, a key policy tool that provides medium-term liquidity to financial institutions. This operation marks the largest single-month addition since February, signaling policymakers' heightened focus on stabilizing economic momentum.

The move comes as China faces persistent headwinds including weak consumer demand, a property sector crisis, and deflationary pressures. The liquidity injection is timed ahead of the late July Politburo meeting, where top leaders will set economic priorities for the second half of the year.

Additionally, the PBOC aims to accommodate increased government bond issuance, which forms part of fiscal stimulus efforts. Analysts view the sizable MLF operation as a precursor to potential further easing measures, including possible cuts to the loan prime rate or reserve requirement ratio.
