Oil Prices Surge Past $95 on Mideast Tensions

Brent crude oil prices surged past $95 a barrel for the first time in six weeks, driven by escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The rally intensified after Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for striking two Saudi tankers, fueling fears of supply disruptions.

Real-time data showed Brent trading at $95.19 a barrel, up 4.23%, with U.S. benchmark West Texas Intermediate also seeing significant gains. These movements reflect growing geopolitical risk premiums in energy markets. The U.S. has been conducting strikes on Iranian military targets for eleven consecutive nights, targeting missile and drone launch sites, command centers, and air defense infrastructure.

Further concerns arose from the Red Sea, where the Houthi movement threatened a naval blockade of Saudi-linked shipping. This warning has led some oil tankers to alter their routes, heightening worries about potential disruptions to crude exports from the region. Iran has also reported intercepting oil tankers attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz, a critical energy shipping route, adding to market anxiety.
