Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy Pill Boosts Denmark’s 2026 Growth Forecast

Denmark raised its 2026 economic growth forecast for the fourth time, driven mainly a bigger-than-expected boost from Novo Nordisk A/S’s new weight-loss pill. The government now sees gross domestic product rising 3.7% this year, up from a May estimate of 2.7%, the ministry of economic growth said on Thursday. The upward revision reflects stronger-than-anticipated domestic demand and export performance linked to the commercial success of Wegovy, Novo Nordisk’s oral semaglutide treatment for obesity.

Analysts note the pill’s rapid adoption in key markets, particularly the United States, has significantly contributed to Novo Nordisk’s revenue surge, which in turn is amplifying Denmark’s economic output through increased corporate profits, tax receipts, and employment in the pharmaceutical sector. The forecast upgrade underscores the growing macroeconomic impact of blockbuster weight-loss medications, with Wegovy becoming a pivotal driver of national economic momentum in Denmark.
