Padmanabh Sinha, former executive director and CIO of National Investment and Infrastructure Funds Ltd, will lead Motilal Oswal Financial Services' alternative-investment business. The appointment comes as Motilal Oswal Alternates expands across private equity, real estate, and private credit. In February, the firm raised its largest private equity fund at $938 million, tapping foreign investors for the first time.

Last year, it entered the private credit space targeting over $300 million. In total, the unit manages $3.5 billion in assets. Sinha previously served as managing partner of Tata Opportunities Fund and co-led Temasek Holdings' India operations.

His appointment highlights a broader trend of experienced leaders taking over Indian alternative businesses. In September, Kotak Alternate Asset Managers appointed Pushkar Jauhari to head its private equity and venture capital business. In April, 360 ONE named Anshuman Maheshwary as CEO of its alternatives business.

The expansion reflects the rapid growth of India's alternative-investment industry as wealthy individuals and institutions seek exposure beyond traditional stocks and bonds.
