Malaysia's central bank has given the green light for MNRB Holdings Bhd. to begin negotiations regarding the potential sale of its Islamic insurance subsidiary, Takaful Ikhlas. Sources indicate discussions are now possible with three potential buyers: Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Bhd., Great Eastern Life Assurance Malaysia Bhd., and Takaful Malaysia. The talks are described as being in their very early stages and carry no guarantee of resulting in a transaction.

MNRB's representative confirmed the company is actively reviewing its strategic investments but declined further specifics. Takaful Malaysia's CEO, Nor Azman Zainal, acknowledged the company's openness to opportunities that could strengthen its market position but declined to comment on MNRB's potential sale. Representatives for the central bank, Bank Rakyat, and Great Eastern Life did not respond to requests for comment.

This development follows MNRB's earlier outreach to insurers and private equity firms last year to gauge interest in Takaful Ikhlas, which was seeking approximately 1 billion ringgit ($255 million) at that time. Founded in 2002, Takaful Ikhlas offers Islamic-compliant insurance products and currently serves about 2 million policyholders. The outcome of these preliminary discussions remains highly uncertain, leaving the future ownership of the Islamic insurer in question.
