Malaysia's former Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob was charged on Thursday for allegedly falsely declaring assets, marking another high-profile corruption case in the Southeast Asian nation.

Ismail, who served as prime minister before Anwar Ibrahim, pleaded not guilty at a Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur. The trial was originally set for Aug. 7 but was delayed after he was hospitalized for a heart condition.

The charges stem from an ongoing investigation by Malaysia's anti-graft agency, reflecting the country's continued efforts to pursue former leaders over corruption allegations.
