Casino gross gaming revenue (GGR) in Macau fell 8.4 percent year‑on‑year in July, to MOP20.26 billion (US$2.51 billion), data from the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau show. The month’s result brings the city’s cumulative 2024 GGR to MOP147.16 billion, a 4.4‑percent lift over the same period last year. July’s GGR was 9.4 percent higher than June’s MOP18.52 billion, a recovery that analysts linked to the fading distraction of the 2026 FIFA World Cup held in North America from June 11 to July 19.

Banking group Citi noted that Macau’s daily GGR rose roughly 9 percent in the second full week of July versus the week beginning July 6, as the “global soccer tournament” distractions “faded”. Bill Hornbuckle, chief executive of MGM China Holdings Ltd, said demand had recovered before the World Cup final on July 19, adding to the positive tone.

The city was also mildly affected by two typhoons in July. Maysak hit at the start of the month and Noul near month‑end, both issuing only a No.3 storm signal. Though the signals prevented a full transport shutdown, oceans disrupted flights at Macau International Airport and halted some ferry services from Guangdong, a key source market.
