LSE Plans 2027 Night Trading Launch

The London Stock Exchange plans to launch a night-time trading venue in the first half of 2027, the Financial Times reported, citing the company. The new exchange will operate separately from LSE's main market and initially offer access to exchange-traded products such as funds tracking UK or US stock markets.

The move responds to growing competition from crypto platforms and other exchanges extending hours. Nasdaq plans 23-hour weekday trading in December, CME rolled out 24x7 crypto futures and options in May, and Cboe aims to launch 23x5 US equities trading on its EDGX exchange in December.

LSE's new venue will run from 5 p.m. to 7:50 a.m. London time, with a 30-minute pause at 6:30 p.m. for end-of-day processes, while the main market keeps standard 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. hours. Julia Hoggett, LSE chief executive, told the FT there is increasing appetite from global retail investors to use London's timezone for exposure to UK and global assets.
