An investigation into alumina exports from Ireland to Russia has not uncovered conclusive evidence connecting a production plant to the manufacture of weapons in Russia. Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin stated that while the probe is ongoing, initial findings do not support such a link.

Alumina, a key component in aluminum production, is a product of the Aughinish Alumina plant in County Limerick, the largest in Europe. This plant is owned by Rusal, a Russian aluminum giant. The investigation was initiated following concerns that alumina exported from Ireland could be used by Russia in its defense industry, particularly in light of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

While Martin emphasized the lack of definitive proof, he acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations and the need for a thorough examination. The Irish government has been collaborating with international partners to ensure compliance with sanctions and to prevent the misuse of Irish exports.
