Indonesia Seeks to Revive Cocoa Output

Once the world’s third-largest cocoa producer, Indonesia is seeking to revive cocoa production after years of underinvestment, aging trees and pests left the industry short of beans and increasingly dependent on imports.

The decline has been driven by chronic underinvestment in plantation renewal and pest management, causing yields to fall sharply over the past decade.

Government and industry stakeholders are now coordinating efforts to replant aging trees, improve farmer training, and attract private investment to restore self-sufficiency.
