India Inflation Holds in Target Range, RBI Likely to Pause

India’s inflation eased slightly in July, settling comfortably within the Reserve Bank’s 2%-6% target band. The data, released by Reserve Bank of India, reaffirmed expectations that policymakers will maintain the current interest rate for the foreseeable future.

The core inflation figure, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, slipped modestly, underscoring a gradual cooling of price pressures. The overall headline CPI also showed only marginal change, suggesting that the market’s concerns over runaway inflation have eased.

Analysts highlight that the RBI’s decision to keep rates unchanged aligns with its dual mandate of sustaining growth while keeping inflation in check. With the economy showing resilience, the central bank appears comfortable in its current stance, avoiding unnecessary tightening that could dampen momentum.

Market participants now focus on upcoming data releases, particularly employment trends and commodity price movements, which will determine whether the RBI continues its pause or moves toward a gradual easing cycle in the coming months.
