Euronext NV has joined the Nordic Compass alliance, adding Europe's biggest stock exchange group to a consortium of about three dozen major companies and institutions pushing for closer Nordic integration. The addition was made at the start of a week when Nordic Compass will lay out its agenda at an inaugural summit, expected to include proposals to further integrate the region's capital markets. Euronext already has a significant footprint in the Nordics through the Oslo stock exchange along with post-trade infrastructure in Denmark and Norway.

Nordic Compass announced the partnership on LinkedIn, saying Euronext would contribute to its work on strengthening the region's competitiveness. The alliance is bringing together three rival financial market infrastructure operators, raising the prospect of more effective cross-border integration. Paris-based Euronext competes with Nasdaq Inc. for trading and listings in the Nordics and with Euroclear Holding NV for settling transactions and safekeeping securities.

Nasdaq is a founding member of Nordic Compass, while Euroclear joined the consortium in recent weeks. The push, which has gained the backing of buyout group EQT AB and Nokia Oyj, comes as Nordic countries are seeing some of their most promising businesses seek financing or listings in the US or relocate altogether. Capital markets are one of Nordic Compass's four areas of focus, with increased cooperation in defense, deep-tech and energy also on the alliance's priority list.

Monday's announcement coincided with Euronext naming NN Group NV's David Knibbe as its next CEO, succeeding Stéphane Boujnah when he steps down in May 2027. Knibbe is set to take over as the bloc tries to unify its financial markets and boost volumes and investment into local companies.
