EU Eyes Winter LNG Buys as Storage Near Two-Decade Low

The EU is optimistic that winter LNG imports will help offset inventories that are at their lowest level for this time of year in almost two decades.

The shortfall is largely a result of the Iran war which drove up prices and disrupted summer stockpiling, levanting a cloud of uncertainty over the region’s energy future.

To mitigate the risk, the bloc is looking to diversify its supply chain, forging new contracts with regional producers and securing storage capacity across multiple basins. This move also aims to reduce reliance on any single source and cushion the market against future price shocks.

The strategy is expected to strengthen energy security, stabilize prices and shape the EU’s וכן procurement roadmap for the coming years.
