European Energy Exchange AG, the world's biggest power bourse, is considering listing new weather futures as commodity platforms expand into products tied to renewable energy's growing role in electricity generation. The German firm is exploring onshore wind, solar and temperature derivatives for markets including Germany, the UK, France, the Netherlands and Spain, according to information provided by EEX. The contracts are designed to manage fluctuations in output and would be settled against independent datasets provided by Enwex GmbH, a German index developer.

An employee of the European Energy Exchange at the company's office in Leipzig, Germany highlights the exchange's physical presence in the region. This move positions EEX alongside other commodity platforms adapting to the energy transition by offering hedging tools for weather-dependent power generation.
