Canada Prime Minister Mark Carney is gathering top investors Monday and Tuesday to attract investment and reduce reliance on the US. Attendees at the Canada Investment Summit in Toronto include BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, Blackstone's Jon Gray, Apollo's Marc Rowan, and KKR's Joseph Bae. The UAE, which committed up to $50 billion, sent its biggest oil producer Abu Dhabi National Oil Co., Investment Corporation of Dubai, and Mubadala Capital.

Africa's richest man Aliko Dangote, Open AI's country head and former UK Chancellor George Osborne, and China International Capital Corp. Chairman Chen Liang were scheduled. Carney aims to attract up to C$1 trillion ($719 billion) in private and public investments over five years, positioning Canada as a safe bet. "We've been slow on moving on a series of areas with respect to regulatory approvals and other factors," he told Bloomberg News. The summit showcases a pitchbook of 167 projects worth tens of billions in data centers, advanced manufacturing, LNG, ports, and mines.

Carney met with Macquarie's Shemara Wikramanayake, Temasek's Dilhan Pillay, Qatar Investment Authority's Mohammed Saif-Al-Sowaidi, and Kuwait Investment Authority's Sheikh Saoud Salem Abdulaziz Al-Sabah. Expected attendees include executives from JP Morgan Chase, PIMCO, Bain Capital, Barclays, Border to Coast Pensions Partnership, Ardian, Deutsche Bank, Norges Bank Investment Management, and Mizuho Financial Group. Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund was not attending.

About half of the 220+ attendees are from Canadian banks, pension funds, investment firms, corporations, and governments. The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and Public Sector Pension Investment Board helped organize.
