Angola has signed $900 million in deals with Chinese investors to develop the Barra do Dande Integrated Development Free Zone, located north of Luanda. This strategic move aims to transform the region into a significant logistics hub.

The agreement designates China National Overseas Construction General Company (COVEC) as the main contractor for the project. The development includes a deep-water port and associated infrastructure, intended to boost Angola's trade and transit capabilities, potentially serving as a gateway for goods into southern Africa.

This initiative aligns with Angola's broader economic diversification strategy, moving beyond its reliance on oil. The government anticipates that the free zone will attract further investment and create employment opportunities, solidifying Angola's position in regional commerce.
