Claude Code, developed by Anthropic, recently tackled a bold experiment: parsing 100 books to map hidden links between themes, characters, and styles. Leveraging advanced NLP, the AI sifted through centuries of prose, turning subjective nuance into measurable patterns. This effort showcases how machine learning can illuminate literary webs.

The team first curated a diverse set of titles, then digitized and cleaned the text, tokenizing sentences for granular analysis. With theme extraction, character relationships, and sentiment analysis commands, Claude Code mapped recurring motifs, traced archetypal arcs, and gauged emotional tone across genres.

Findings revealed that identity threads weave through works from Jhumpa Lahiri to Chinua Achebe, while the tragic hero archetype shifts across cultures. Sentiment trends showed dystopian novels carry heavier moods, whereas contemporary romances emphasize resilience. These patterns underscore how global voices echo shared human concerns.

This project signals a shift toward AI in humanities, inviting scholars and developers to collaborate on richer analyses. Continuous learning means each new book refines the model, promising deeper insights over time. As AI tools mature, literary criticism may evolve from subjective essays to data‑driven narratives.
