Wales head coach Steve Tandy was 'overwhelmed with pride' after his team ended a three-year, 15-game losing streak in the Six Nations with a 31-17 victory over Italy in Cardiff. The win, secured at Principality Stadium, featured tries from number eight Aaron Wainwright, hooker Dewi Lake, and fly-half Dan Edwards, who also contributed 11 points.

Tandy's side had entered the tournament with heavy defeats by England and France, but showed marked improvement after losses to Scotland and Ireland. The victory marks only the second win of Tandy's tenure and his first in the Six Nations. Wales had beaten Japan just twice in 27 Tests since their 2023 World Cup quarter-final exit.

Captain Dewi Lake, who called the loss to Scotland 'gut-wrenching,' expressed joy at the team's progress. 'We hope we have restored some faith in the jersey,' said the Gloucester-bound Ospreys hooker. Italy, despite victories against Scotland and England earlier in the tournament, couldn't maintain momentum and fell to their fifth consecutive Wooden Spoon.
