Wales Captain Lake Eyes Ireland Upset in Six Nations Clash

Wales captain Dewi Lake believes his team can pull off an upset against Ireland despite recent struggles. Lake acknowledged that Ireland's dominance was highlighted when former British and Irish Lions coach Andy Farrell selected only two Welsh players for the 2025 Australia tour - Jac Morgan and Tomos Williams. Lake said this selection "can't not" reflect the current gap between the teams.

Lake was candid about Wales' recent form, admitting "over the last 12 months, we haven't been good enough as a team." He praised Morgan and Williams as "world-class players" who deserved their Lions selection while noting Wales haven't shown consistent quality. Ireland have "massively grown" and are "top-class," creating an "obvious gulf" according to Lake, but he maintains Wales can beat anyone on their day.

The Welsh skipper emphasized his team won't be motivated by proving Farrell wrong. "Regardless of who's in the room, or who's coaching, we believe we're a good enough team to do a job on them," Lake stated. Wales enters the Six Nations 2026 clash with renewed belief despite Ireland's clear advantage.
