UK Sport Targets Record Winter Olympic Medals

UK Sport is forecasting a record-breaking medal haul for Team GB at the upcoming Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics. The funding body is aiming for a target of four to eight medals, which would surpass the nation's previous best of five. That benchmark was set at Sochi 2014 and matched in Pyeongchang four years later.

This ambition reflects a deeper investment in winter sports, backed by more than £32.5 million in funding. Athletes like two-time skeleton world champion Matt Weston and snowboarder Mia Brookes are leading the charge. Chef de mission Eve Muirhead praised the team's meticulous preparation, noting they are positioned to challenge the status quo despite limited access to snow compared to rivals.

For the Winter Paralympics in March, the goal is two to five medals, a lower target due to injury challenges. Despite a serious knee injury for decorated Paralympian Menna Fitzpatrick, officials remain confident. The squad is expected to be competitive across various disciplines as they chase a strong finish in Italy.
